Research summary
BiB4All is a data linkage cohort study that every woman who is booked to receive maternity care at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will be invited to join. Women will be invited to join the study by their midwife during pregnancy or after giving birth. \n\nPregnant women will be sent the participant information sheet by post. This will give them time to consider the information about the study before being asked for their consent. Midwives will ask women whether they consent to joining the study during a routine appointment. A mandatory question about joining the study will be added to the electronic patient record for all pregnant women and the consent or decline to join would be recorded here. Once informed consent has been obtained, the study team would be notified and enrol the participant into the study. BiB4All will follow families who join the study by linking a variety of routine data sets together to build a clearer picture of families lives over time. This includes data from health, education, social care and other settings. The purpose of linking this data together and following families over time is to better describe child health and development in Bradford and identify whether patterns exist in the data that might help in the early identification of families with poor health and development. Connecting data that already exists provides the opportunity to create an efficient research and service improvement cohort as no additional data collection is required from families. This means that the project is far less burdensome for families than traditional cohort studies that require multiple bespoke data collection over time. [COVID-19 amendment – 20/04/2020] As part of the Born in Bradford action on the coronavirus situation, we are delivering a number of surveys to our participants to understand the impact of the coronavirus Government response on Bradford’s families. This amendment is to allow us to contact pregnant women who have consented to BiB4All and complete a survey with them.
