Research summary
People with arthritis see a whole range of health professionals who work in their communities. These include nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, podiatrists and pharmacists who they may see for their arthritis or for other problems. The aim of this project is to find out what education these health professionals need so that they are better able to understand, recognise and care for arthritis. The project will use discussions with patients, health professionals and rheumatology experts to agree a list of topics that should be included in training programmes. Some of these topics will be things that all health professionals should know about arthritis and some will be specific to different professional groups. This information can be used to design training programmes for these health professionals. The project is also finding out what the barriers to the health professionals receiving this training might be and how we might overcome them.
