Research summary
This study will be looking at children (under 18 years), male or female, already diagnosed with benign rolandic epilepsy seen at SGH/UHS. The focus of this study is a retrospective review of EEG findings in Southampton over the past 5-10 years. The study will look to see how many children are found to have bilateral synchronous discharges and whether there is a correlation with any features such as age of onset, severity or cognitive changes seen.
The results to this project will aim to improve diagnosis and understanding of benign rolandic epilepsy.
We will be looking at all cases of rolandic epilepsy in the Southampton area seen at Wessex Neuroscience Centre over the last 5-10 years, while aiming to include around 40 subjects
The data used will include patient records, EEG findings and laboratory results. In order to find patients, they will be searched for on patient databases or electronic databases. In order to maintain confidentiality throughout the study, patient data will be anonymised and kept in a database.
Throughout the project literature searches and reviews will be undertaking to maintain an update understanding of the subject area along with any findings that will aid this research.REC name
