Data collection arrangements
Blood samples will be processed and stored at the RUH, Bath, to enable accurate and efficient processing of samples. Serum samples and/or data that were part of the SMART study will be transferred to the Biobank as those consenting to the SMART study consented to have their samples used for future research.
The investigators will retain the samples indefinitely to be used in other SpA research initiatives, unless participants choose to withdraw and request destruction of previously contributed samples. We will not be collecting urine samples as part of the ongoing collection for the biobank.
Research programme
Professor Sengupta has established a national and international panel of collaborators in the field of spondyloarthritis. We will therefore try to maintain our links with other experts in the field who are conducting cutting edge research in AS. Thus, the data collected as part of the Biobank may be used in further research. Data and samples may be shared with other researchers investigating the spondyloarthropathies. Some of the outcome measures used in the questionnaires have patents, and as a condition of their use the investigator may be requested to provide data so that further analysis and testing of the measures may continue. Any data that is shared will be coded using a study identification (ID) number and will not identify the participant by name, address, telephone number, NHS or hospital number.
