Data collection arrangements
Patients who are eligible will be provided with the patient information sheet (PIS) by trained staff,the PIS introduces and discusses the research work, and what the samples may be used for after donation. They will be encouraged to ask questions and if happy to donate, will be requested to include their initials to show agreement and sign the consent form providing authorisation to use the samples (tissue or other biological sample) and associated data.
Samples and data once collected are stored securely in accordance with the human tissue act 2004, the General data protection regulation 2018 and Data Protection act 2018 UKResearch programme
The bank serves the community of breast cancer researchers in academia and industry, both in the UK and worldwide. The variety of sample types collected supports many current and developing areas of breast cancer research. These include immunotherapy and the immune response to cancer (tissue samples and white blood cells), inherited genetics and tumour genomic research (white blood cells and tumour tissue) and biomarker development, including circulating tumour DNA and longitudinal analysis (plasma samples).
