Research summary
Band 5 children’s nurses’ experiences and perceptions of personal and professional development.
There is currently very little known about the development experiences and perceptions of children’s nurses working in the NHS. Much workforce development literature is focused upon areas, which struggle with staff retention or recruitment, and this does not apply to children’s nurses. This research seeks to add knowledge to this subject, and the results of this research will be used to provide insight into future development opportunities for children’s nurses.
The research is located in the North East of England and Band 5 Children’s Nurses with more than one years’ experience working in the NHS will be eligible to participate. Newly qualified (less than 1 years’ experience) children’s nurses will be excluded from the study as they are likely to have fewer experiences upon which they can reflect and their early development is led by the NHS preceptorship programme. The research will be conducted in acute NHS Trusts and will require participants to take part in two semi structured interviews, each up to one hour in length.REC name
