Research summary
Good sleep is paramount to guarantee optimal function of every organ, including the brain. Sleep disorders are twice as common in people with epilepsy compared to the general population and have a detrimental effect on seizure control. Despite their huge health impact, sleep disturbances are overlooked in people with epilepsy, and the lack of objective tools to assess sleep in the community is an obstacle to their diagnosis and treatment. This research evaluates the validity of a wearable device for day-to-day sleep monitoring, offering a potential new solution to improve quality of life and overall health in people with epilepsy.
