Research summary
Previous research has shown that a large number of people who hear voices have experienced trauma in early childhood relationships, for example being repeatedly criticised or neglected by their parents. One theory suggests that people’s early experiences of relationships shape their relationships throughout their lives. Additionally, the way that people act in their relationships with others mirrors they way they act in their relationship with their voice. For example, if they avoid social relationships they may also avoid/ dismiss their voice.
The current project aims to investigate the associations between trauma, relationship styles and hearing voices by asking people who hear voices to complete questionnaires focusing on these areas.
