Research summary
Heart failure (HF) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, with an increasing prevalence due to an ageing population and improved survival rates for cardiovascular diseases. Effective management of HF requires continuous monitoring, optimization of medications at frequent intervals and lifestyle adjustments, which can be burdensome for healthcare systems, and due to lack of capacity for appointments it can take a long time to get the patients on the right medications.
A HF-specific virtual assistant (VA) named SIRIO-HF, constructed on current HF guideline recommendations, has been developed and may provide real-time monitoring, personalized advice, and artificial intelligence-based decision support.
We aim to assess the acceptability and feasibility of using of the SIRIO-HF VA in participants with a new diagnosis of HF, to facilitate more regular assessment and more rapid optimisation of guideline-directed HF medications, reduce the need for regular medical contact and the healthcare burden, without compromising participant safety and care quality. The VA advice will be overseen by a consultant cardiologist real time, to ensure patients are always given safe and effective advice.
