Research summary
The striking feature of COVID-19 is that it ravages the elderly population so violently, yet the paediatric populations in many reports escape with mild, if any, symptoms. We have found sequence homology in the viral capsid of Rubella virus with SARS-CoV2. The 3D viral model of SARS-CoV2 has identified that the homologous sequence is used to bind to the cells and as a result we propose that Rubella anti-bodies would be potentially protective in COVID-19 infection. \n\nWe propose to use the biochemistry samples of COVID-19 patients sent to the laboratory to check for Rubella Immunoglobulin titres and correlate with burden of disease.
