  • Research summary

We would like to take a research blood sample from patients who have had their pancreas removed and have received an islet auto-transplantation. We would like to investigate the complement system; this system plays a major role in inflammation and the body's immune response. Approximately 10% of the population are deficient in the MBL pathway. Taking a blood sample will allow us to measure different people's complement response - this may lead to a test predicting how well different people recover from this type of surgery.
