Research summary
This study will look at a number of inflammatory markers detected in patients with cardiovascular disease, and compare these markers to a control population, without known cardiovascular disease. The purpose of this is to identify which inflammatory markers are significantly raised in cardiovascular disease patients, as this may indicate a marker which offers the potential for early diagnosis of cardiovascular disease following a blood test. If a suitable marker can be identified this provides a relatively safe method for diagnosis of cardiovascular disease, which may even have the potential to be used as a screening test for the general population.
Patients with cardiovascular disease will be recruited to take part to represent the test population, and controls will be recruited from the staff areas within Russells Hall hospital. The research will all take place at Russells Hall hospital and require all participants to attend the hospital on a single occasion to have blood samples collected. These samples will be analysed and the data processed before all participants will be informed of the results of the study.REC name
