Research summary
The intention of this narrative inquiry study is to explore parents’ stories of having a child with a tracheostomy, at three time points during the first 12 months following formation of a new tracheostomy. The participants will be the parents/main carers of children who have had a new tracheostomy formed at Alder Hey Children’s Foundation NHS Trust. The aim will be to interview before discharge and at 3 and 12 months,the first eight to twelve families who agree to take part.
Analysis of the data will help to create an in-depth understanding of caring for a child with a trachesotomy.It is hoped that this understanding will inform the care of future parents of child who have a tracheostomy and provide parents an insight into other parents experiences. Also for health professionals to provided better support and care to families whose child has a tracheostomy.
