  • Research summary

In the United Kingdom recent market research has shown that Healthcare Professionals (particularly in primary care) feel that there is currently no unmet need in the treatment of asthma patients. People with asthma in the UK have been shown to have high levels of emergency healthcare use and, despite successful diagnosis, can still have poor asthma control.
The overall purpose of this study is to provide data on the levels of asthma control in UK asthma patients visiting their GP or their asthma specialist. This study will also allow us to assess differences between the participant and the Healthcare Professional's perception of their asthma control. This will be done using a simple questionnaire called the ACT (Asthma Control Test), which has been approved by asthma specialists as a good way to show how well asthma is being controlled.
Approximately 320 patients (aged 18-75) with a confirmed diagnosis of asthma and receiving treatment for this will enter this study and will be divided into five groups (64 patients in each group) according to the current UK asthma treatment guidelines. The sponsor and funder of this non-interventional study is Boehringer Ingelheim UK Ltd.
