  • Research summary

Gemma Stott, Consultant Dietitian at St. George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has created a tool that can be used to determine how dietetically complex patients are. This research aims to show the tool has face validity, content validity and is reproducible. We will send the Dietetic Complexity Tool to dietetic leads/specialists via secure email to NHS Trusts across the UK for content validity scoring and request completion of a short questionnaire via survey monkey. Once feedback has been collated, Gemma Stott (Chief Investigator) will amend the Dietetic Complexity Tool accordingly, it will then be sent back to the same Trusts across the UK for dietitians and dietetic support workers to use as part of routine practice. Two dietitians/support workers will be asked to independently use the dietetic complexity tool to assess the complexity of the same patient (as part of their routine practice) and their complexity scores will be recorded in a spreadsheet. For ease of data collection the 1st dietitian will assess the patient as per normal dietetic practice and use the tool to score the complexity of the patient. The 2nd dietitian/support worker will gather the information from the patients dietetic records (notes) to score the complexity of the patient using the tool. This data will then be analysed to determine whether the tool is reproducible. Dietitians who have used the tool will be asked to complete a survey, giving feedback on the tool and whether they feel the tool is accurate. This information will be used to determine whether the tool has face validity.
