  • Research summary

The current COVID-19 pandemic requires new diagnostic techniques to be created and evaluated in a rapid fashion. In order for this to occur researchers must have access to multiple sample types from different patient populations to establish and test the accuracy of new diagnostics. Under these conditions it is technically difficult to consent patients for samples prior to processing. Therefore we must have the ability to use surplus or discarded samples with a subset of clinical information collected by the direct care team and provided to the researchers in a linked-anonymised fashion.

The samples to be used in this project will be surplus/discarded material from clinical samples sent to GSTT Viapath clinical laboratories for routine clinical testing. The participants will undergo no further testing or interventions and will not be known to the study team.
