Research summary
In order to improve how patients take their medicines it is essential to understand more about patients’ behaviours and beliefs regarding their medication. There is evidence that this may be enhanced by improving patient satisfaction with information they are provided about medicines through education and counselling. There is potential to improve clinical outcomes by studying patient behaviours and other factors linked to medicine adherence to facilitate the development of evidence based interventions that could lead to improved medicine taking. The aim of this study is therefore to investigate and explore medication adherence behaviour and related factors in patients who have undergone elective and emergency cardiac treatment.
