  • Research summary

This project will further develop and attempt to optimise the ASICA digital intervention. ASICA is a theory and evidence-based digital intervention designed to improve early self-detection of melanoma recurrences and second primaries by prompting and supporting people with melanoma to conduct regular total-skin-self-examination.
In our recent Cancer Research UK-funded pilot trial ASICA increased total-skin-self-examination and improved quality of life for people with melanoma. Patient volunteers, clinicians, computer scientists and psychologists will now work together to:

    • Improve engagement with and adherence to ASICA
    • Streamline the functioning of ASICA to maximise clinical efficiency
    • Produce an an advanced working prototype for further testing before
    implementation with patients
