  • Research summary

This study will gather patient satisfaction, empowerment, and safety data on a new digital follow-up pathway.

Participants will be recruited into five arms:

Arm 1: a patient and carer co-design cohort comprising potential users of the app. This cohort will participate in focus groups and Simple Useability tests to assess patient and carer experience of existing follow-up pathways and gather data to inform the design of the Ascelus platform and digital follow-up pathway.

Arm 2: a healthcare professional co-design and feedback cohort, comprising clinicians and other healthcare professionals with relevant interests. This cohort will participate in focus groups and Simple Useability tests to supplement the input of Arm 1 and will also participate in a second round of focus groups at the end of the study, to review the use of the Ascelus platform and the digital follow-up pathway.

Arm 3: a key opinion leader interview cohort, comprising commissioners, policymakers, and other specialists. This cohort will participate in individual interviews in the co-design phase and focus groups in the feedback phase, with a focus on commercialisation, scalability, and integration of the Ascelus platform.

Arm 4: a retrospective clinical review of patients on existing follow-up pathways and on the new pathway. This review will gather safety information including inpatient admission frequency, frequency of progression or other condition-related incidents, adverse incident frenquency, and patient complaint frequency.

Arm 5: a cohort of patients on the new digital follow-up pathway at King’s College Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. This will include patients with eight long term haematological conditions. We will collect demographic and diagnosis data, conduct focus groups, surveys, and Discrete Choice Experiments, and gather data on health resource utilisation for 12 months after their commencement on the new pathway.
