  • Research summary

The ASAS Health-Index (HI) study was aimed to develop an instrument to measure the health of people with spondyloarthritis (SpA). This HI aims to capture the whole range of functioning and disability in patients with axial SpA.
The ASAS-HI contains 17 items addressing categories of pain, emotional functions, sleep, sexual functions, mobility, self care, and community life.
The ASAS-HI aims to be a multicultural tool and has now been translated into 17 languages.
The current project has been designed to assess the construct and external validity of this instrument and to develop a discrete choice experiment in order to obtain disease specific patient preferences of health. Discrete choice experiments have been used in many research settings to assess patients's preferences regarding competing choices and willingess to participate in clinical trials.
This international ASAS project will lead to further validation of the ASAS Health Index (ASAS HI) and will help to create a patient based health preference score based on the ASAS HI.
