Research summary
The Anaesthesia Sprint Audit of Practice (ASAP 1) was designed to audit aneasthetists’ compliance with national standard for anaesthesia administered to patients with hip fracture, using add-on data fields collected by the National Hip Fracture Database (NHFD). Over 11,000 sets of patient data were collected in 3 months in 2013, and reported in January 2014.
This study, ASAP 2, aims to analyse this data further by researching: (a) how anaesthetic practice is associated with the patient outcomes routinely recorded by the NHFD (mortality, length of stay, return to place of residence); and (2) whether the Nottingham Hip Fracture Score (NHFS) is a valid risk adjustment tool for future NHFD performance comparisons between hospitals in the UK.
