Research summary
Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is defined as a fetal birth weight below the 10th percentile for sex and gestational age. Poor fetal growth is a cause of serious perinatal mortality and morbidity, causing potentially both short and long term health impacts and consequences. The aim of this study is to explore four different tools; fundal height measurements, ultrasound scans, antenatal and postnatal growth charts, used within one acute hospital trust to aid the detection of intrauterine growth restriction and to explore how they can be improved. A mixed methods approach will be used, involving a retrospective audit, observational survey and semi-structured interviews.
