  • Data collection arrangements

    The biobank will be situated in the Department of Pathology at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Within the department there are dedicated -80C freezers and locked ambient store rooms where biobank specimens will be stored. All patient data will be kept on a bespoke, secure database, access will be restricted to key researchers.

  • Research programme

    The collaboration of clinicians and scientists from Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, The University of Central Lancashire and Lancaster University have an active work programme developing new technologies in detection and characterising cancers. The group are developing spectroscopy and are also using biophysical techniques to identify stem cells in tissue so that potential therapies might be targeted at cellular level. Medical research fellows and PhD students from the institutions may apply for access to tissues from the biobank supported by their senior clinical and scientific supervisors.
