Research summary
As part of routine clinical care, the Diabetes Centre in NHS Grampian has been for several years annually screening all patients for anxiety and depression using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). The aim of the project is to a) explore whether those people with higher levels of anxiety and depression struggle more to self-manage (indicated by higher HbA1c values); b) whether this is especially the case for those with chronic anxiety and depression, and c) whether particular groups are especially vulnerable to clinical levels of anxiety and depression (eg those with specific diabetes-related complications).
