  • Research summary

The aim of this project is to study the prevalence of antibodies against Covid-19 (anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies) in the staff population at Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. In particular, it will investigate the impact of occupational exposure, ethnicity and gender on the prevalence of anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. This will aid national efforts to address major gaps in our understanding of how Covid-19 is spread and risk factors for exposure.\n\nHomerton Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a single-site NHS Trust based in Hackney, East London. It has an extremely diverse workforce, with BAME staff accounting for 52% of the workforce. All staff who have had an antibody test through the trust’s Occupational Health department will be eligible for inclusion. The results will be matched with HR records to extract demographic, role and sickness absence data. The study is retrospective and will utilise data that has already beeen collected in line with HR and Occupational Health protocols. It will be anonymised prior to analysis.\n\nThis project addresses a valid and relevant question surrounding the Covid-19 antibody status of health care professionals in secondary care facilities. With this information, providers will be able to better plan care provision and protect staff.
