Research summary
The UK-licensed human Anthrax Vaccine Precipitated (AVP) has been in use since 1963 and during that time over 50,000 doses have been given. Initial treatment consists of three injections three weeks apart, and a fourth injection six months later. This is followed by annual booster injections. It is not clear whether these annual booster injections are necessary in order to maintain immunity, or whether the initial treatment should be repeated if annual booster injections have been missed. The purpose of this study is to examine the immune response to a booster injection, to help answer these questions. The study will enrol people who are up-to-date with their annual boosters as well as those who have not had an anthrax booster for at least two years.
