Research summary
When parents face the devastating news during pregnancy that their baby is affected by a life-limiting condition they rely on health care professionals for advice and support. These families are now increasingly being offered antenatal (before birth) palliative care.
This research aims to better understand the pattern of these referrals across the UK by collecting data from 4 hospitals where doctors and nurses provide antenatal palliative care support. We will look at medical records from women and children and will analyse data that has previously been collected as part of routine clinical care. We are interested in who provides palliative care support and what clinical resources are required to provide this care. This data will provide us with important evidence about existing antenatal palliative care services and will help healthcare organisations to develop better services in the future.REC name
