Research summary
This a retrospective study looking at patients who have already undergone elective aortic aneurysm repair at the Freeman Hospital. Detailed preoperative assessment is undertaken before surgery looking specifically at risk factors for surgery including smoking, alcohol, exercise capacity via cardiopulmonary exercise testing. All this data is stored on the trust's e-record system.
Outcomes from surgery, are also recorded by the vascular team specifically complications and length of stay. Longer term mortality rates are also monitored.
We want to examine whether there is an association between social deprivation (derived simply from postcode) to potentially modifiable risk factors for surgery and outcomes after surgery.
This will provide detailed information on how we can mitigate these risks and target interventions in the future to this specific group of patients.
