  • Research summary

The overall aims of the project are to understand and highlight patient perspectives regarding intermittent androgen deprivation therapy (IADT) vs continuous androgen deprivation therapy (CADT); and to explore current practice and apparent barriers to offering IADT for men where indicated.
    The main objectives would be:
    • To elicit quality of life outcomes comparing IADT vs CADT
    • To elicit men’s knowledge, views, attitudes and preferences about having IADT
    • To understand current UK practice related to offering men IADT and follow-up, amongst health care providers who could contribute to either offering the choice or surveillance (urologists, oncologists, primary care physicians, clinical nurse specialists)
    • To assess the potential for UK consensus amongst prostate cancer specialists (oncologists, urologists, clinical nurse specialists) and those in primary care who will be responsible in future for follow up, regarding the implementation of the latest NICE guidelines
    • To triangulate all the findings leading to the development of a manualised complex intervention to inform choices about IADT for a future trial
