Research summary
Cerebrovascular disease happens when a blood vessel in the brain is blocked or leaks blood into the brain (a stroke). Other forms of cerebrovascular disease involve alterations to blood vessels structure in the brain, which can lead to a stroke. We also want to study rare genetic conditions (such as Rett syndrome) which can alter brain blood vessels. In this study we want to study people with cerebrovascular disease to try and identify genetic factors that may contribute to their illness. We also want to take small skin samples and grow cells from them. These cells can be made into brain cells in our laboratory and studied to understand the causes of cerebrovascular disease.
