  • Research summary

The research study will investigate the Trauma Focused Psychotherapy process, for the treament of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder with non organic voice loss, following a traumatic incident. A single case study will follow the process of a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy CBT combined with Eye Movement De-sensitisation and Re-processing EMDR intervention. The NICE National Institute of Clinical Excellence, recommend both CBT Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and EMDR Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy for the treatment of PTSD Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The research study aims to add the body of knowledge and guide further research into the limitations of using CBT or EMDR, as a single approach in Trauma Focused Therapy and the strengths of combining both CBT and EMDR in an integrated approach. The single case research study has a small sample size of 1. The single case study design has been chosen to give rich data that aims to demonstrate "causal relations among clinical phenomena" (Nock, 2007). The research study will use mixed methods, quantitative data and qualitative material. The aim is to guide further research on a larger scale.
