Research summary
This qualitative study aims to look at the support services that are in place for adoptive parents pre and post adoption. This will be achieved by exploring the experiences of adoptive parents who were foster carers and, therefore, have knowledge about and experience of the support services that are available, and, if and how, these change once a child has been adopted. The research questions this study hopes to answer are:
- Does the experience of available support services change when foster carers
become adoptive parents?- If so, how are these changes experienced by the parents concerned?
A sample of between four and six participants will be recruited via the Adoption Support team and the Yellowhouse Psychology Service for Children in Care at North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare Trust. Each participant will be interviewed using a semi-structured interview schedule exploring their experiences of support services both before and after they adopted. Responses will be audio-recorded, transcribed and analysed using an Interpretative Phenomenological Approach (IPA)
