Research summary
A number of studies have examined parental uncertainty with regard to serious physical illnesses of children such as in the area of diabetes and HIV positive children(Santacroce, 1997; 2000; 2001; 2002; 2003; Mishel, 1983).According to Mishel’s model (1988; 1990) of parental uncertainty, parental uncertainty has a negative impact on coping strategies of carers. There has been however little known about the role of uncertainty in parents who are the primary carers of their adolescent child with a diagnosis of anorexia nervosa even though it may have it may impact on symptom maintenance and the course of treatment.
This study will examine parents experience uncertainty in relation to their child’s illness and treatment.REC name
