Research summary
There have been some high profile exposes of serious failings in compassionate care in the UK, as revealed in reports such as the Francis report (2013) and the Andrews and Butler report (2014) on two hospitals in Wales. This project is driven by such reports and current health policies highlighting the importance of compassion, empathy, respect, and dignity in health and social care. The overall aim of this study is to explore the concept of compassionate care from the perspectives of older people, carers and service providers in health and care settings. A multi-phase, mixed method design will be used. This includes in-depth interviews with older people, and group concept mapping via online software with service providers and a workshop approach with older people and carers.
