Research summary
This research project aims to qualitatively explore the experiences of women who have expressed an interest in breastfeeding and go on to either breastfeed or stop at 2-4 weeks. A sample of 10 pregnant women will be recruited for this research project, contacted via Maternity Services. The research will consist of two semi-structured interviews, one conducted before and one after birth. The interviews will be underpinned by the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF) (Michie, Johnston, Abraham, Parker, Walker & Lawton, 2005). Open-ended questions will be asked to elicit thoughts, feelings and experiences surrounding breastfeeding, following the women on a trajectory in order to investigate the factors influencing breastfeeding during the 2-4 weeks after birth.
