  • Research summary

This project involves supporting people with personal experience of psychosis to conduct research within a therapeutic and supportive group environment. The ‘therapeutic research group’ will work together to develop a new outcome measure and group intervention for people experiencing distressing psychosis related difficulties.

Participants will be supported to investigate, discuss, engage in experiential learning around and develop a new Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) informed self help intervention and outcome measure based on their research of latest available theory, evidence and therapeutic techniques.

In addition to utilising ‘expert by experience’ knowledge to develop an intervention and outcome measure, valuable information will be collated that could inform and help to improve the quality and uptake of future CBT interventions for psychosis.

It is hypothesised that taking part in the therapeutic research group will have a positive impact on the mental wellbeing of participants. Participants will be asked to complete measures at the beginning and conclusion of the therapeutic research group, which will take place over a six month period. Participants will also have an opportunity to contribute to qualitative research in the form of focus groups and one-to-one interviews which will take place during and subsequent to the group’s completion.
