Research summary
The study aims to understand more about rare autoimmune conditions that affect the nervous system. The immune system normally controls our ability to fight infection, but in these diseases it attacks the nervous system (brain and spinal cord).
The purpose of this study is to use clinical, immunological, radiological information and tissue samples that have been collected during routine clinical practice. There is little knowledge or understanding on clinical course, effect of treatments or long-term outcomes.
This study will assess symptoms and factors affecting quality of life. A further aim is to identify and describe the costs of illness for this group of patients and determine factors associated with these costs.
We may also wish to share samples and anonymised data with other research groups that we collaborate with including other doctors and researchers from other UK hospitals or abroad (Europe, USA) who are studying similar diseases.REC name
