  • Research summary

This clinical study was planned to prove the benefits of the ADHEAR Hearing aid with an adhesive adapter in children. These children already wear a different hearing device in this way. This adhesive adapter means the children do not have to wear a typical "in the ear" hearing aid and it is excellent for those children born without external ears and problems within their ear canals. We are applying
This provides easy holding, no ear canal occlusion and better cosmetic appearance. This new hearing aid transmits sound through the skin and the bone behind the ear directly to the cochlear ( organ of hearing). No surgery or rehabilitation are necessary and the adhesive plaster can be removed any time is necessary and a new one placed. The hearing aid amplifies speech sufficiently to be checked and evaluated with and without the hearing aid in place. It is possible to evaluate the their hearing experience and the effects on their quality of life after 8 weeks. The audiological tests are the usual ones performed at BCH and the questionnaire is the standard BCH audiology follow up forms. We are applying for REC/HRA approval pending CE marking in the new year (January 2017).
