Research summary
This project has been devised to meet the challenges outlined in the NHS ‘Advancing Mental Health Equalities Strategy.’ This includes the disproportionately higher rates of involuntary detention for Black service users, when compared to their White counterparts (Barnett et al., 2019; Halvorsrud et al., 2018; Weich et al., 2017); alongside the greater disparity in access and acceptance of psychological interventions (Fischer et al. 2014). Despite robust evidence on health inequalities and emerging mental health service initiatives aiming to address them, there is limited research evaluating these interventions including the experiences of people involved in the interventions (Hassen et al., 2021).
The current project aims to investigate the experience and impact of service users (Experts by Experience) being involved in an addressing inequalities intervention in mental health services. In particular, we will conduct this investigation on an existing Research & Development (R&D) funded North East London Mental Health Foundation Trust (NELFT) initiative within Early Intervention for Psychosis Services ' The Danger of Single Story'.REC name
