Research summary
To study the clinical and economic effectiveness of standard opioid agonist substitution treatment to treat heroin dependence, using either oral methadone hydrochloride or suboxone sublingual tablet (both NICE recommended opioid agonist medications and front-line therapies for this disorder in the NHS) but with little study in the NHS in the context of a personalised behavioural therapy package to reduce heroin and cocaine use among initially clinically non-responsive patients.
