Research summary
Major injury is a common cause of death in childhood, with traumatic brain injury (TBI)(head injury)the commonest type of major injury. Advances in how to best manage children with TBI have been limited. Evidence for treatments is weak and trials very difficult to undertake. As a result management varies considerably. This project does not use the usual research approach (randomised controlled trial)but uses a practical and novel approach, observing in detail how individual children are managed, to test a number of aspects of TBI care and how these affect outcomes.
