Research summary
This study aims to investigate whether acupuncture treatment before and during IVF cycles has an effect on outcome compared to standard care. The study will compare the records of subjects who had acupuncture at the Hewitt Fertility Centre during their first or second IVF cycle between Jan 2012- Dec 2018 with a matched group who had usual care only to investigate whether there is any significant difference between the two groups in terms of primary outcome measure of live birth rate and secondary outcome measures of clinical pregnancy rate, multiple pregnancy rate and miscarriage rate.
The study is retrospective meaning that it will involve data analysis only. There are no further questionnaires or treatment involved. The aim of the study is to improve patient care and IVF outcomes through a better understanding of the effects of acupuncture and frequency of treatment on IVF outcomes. The study is being funded by a grant from the British Acupuncture Council.
