Research summary
Osteoarthritis of the knee joint affects many people (specially the elderly) in the UK. This can be a debilitating condition, and is usually only diagnosed in the later stages, once the symptom of pain has manifested, and the patient already suffers from osteoarthritis.
This study aims to use acoustic emissions from the knee to ascertain whether a person is susceptible, or already has osteoarthritis. This will be done by attaching piezoelectric sensors to the knee, and the patient will be made to sit and stand 3 times. The data will be collected by the machine and later processed using Vallen Acoustic Emission software.REC name
