  • Data collection arrangements

The aim of the ACED cohort is to collect clinical, demographic, physiological and epidemiological information, and store linked biological samples (e.g. DNA, blood, blood derivatives and urine) from adults to establish a cohort to better understand risk factors for cancer and to detect cancers at earlier stages.
Participants will be consented for their samples donated to ACED Clinic Cambridge and data generated from the samples will to be used for genetic, biomedical studies and clinical trials.
Upon enrolment, each participant will give consent, complete a risk-profiling, quality of life, clinical and lifestyle questionnaire to provide comprehensive cancer risk prediction on the basis of genetic and non-genetic factors. Participants will have a standard set of samples collected (e.g. urine, blood and derivatives - refer to Table 1 in protocol) for biomarker profiling, which will be designed to maximise utility across different applications. The participant may donate up to 50mls or less of blood through routine venesection by qualified staff on an annual basis. There may be some instances where the visit could be more frequent depending on the participant risk profile. Samples will be processed to obtain cells, nucleic acid (DNA/RNA), plasma, serum and whole blood. All these materials will be accessible for future studies where they may be analysed, genotyped, amplified, logged and stored for future use in research over an indefinite period. These samples will be primarily held at the CCRC (Cambridge Clinical ResearchCentre) and at the Hutchision/MRC Research Centre as part of the ACED Cohort but alternative archiving facilities may be used from time-to-time.
