Research summary
This is a West Suffolk Hospital based 12 week feasibility study to show if the use of remote assistive technology can improve the self-care of children and young people with diabetes. By using a form of assistive technology to try and help record, monitor and educate young people may be able to manage their diabetes better. This study will indicate whether such an intervention could be viable in helping to prevent long term chronic conditions from occuring due to better self management. Participants will sample their blood glucose levels as they do now, but will use a Bluetooth Blood Glucose Meter to wirelessly transmit data to a mobile phone. The software application on the phone will allow interegation of the data and for it to be uploaded to a weblink where the Clinician can monitor the results and immediately intervene if required. Questionnaires and focus groups will be used to assess the technology and how it impacts on the management of their diabetes.
