Research summary
This study will explore the experiences of transgender individuals accessing services for survivors of sexual violence. The main aim of this study is to shape and drive a new accessibility for transgender survivors to adequate and appropriate support services. The study will be conducted within an action research framework. Data collection tools will include a national online questionnaire and one-to-one interviews and focus groups in the Brighton area. We aim to collect primarily qualitative data, which will be analysed using grounded theory coding. The results from the study will be submitted for publication in academic journals and also used to create tools to encourage best practice for organisations that work with transgender survivors of sexual violence. Depending on the findings of the research, it may also lead to the creation of a new service for transgender survivors of sexual violence or the adaptation of existing services to better meet their needs.
