Research summary
The aim of our study is to describe and value the health-related quality of life for adult patients with B-cell ALL.
Our study will be conducted in four stages.
Stage 1: the health-related quality of life of adult patients with B-cell ALL will be described in vignettes written with the advice of clinicians with expertise in treating adult patients with B-cell ALL and based on the FACT-Leu (Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy – Leukemia) questionnaire, a validated patient-reported outcomes instrument for use in acute leukaemia. The vignettes describe the impact of the disease on the functional, social, emotional and physical well-being of patients.
Stage 2: the health state descriptions in the vignettes will be validated by individual interviews with patients and clinicians/nurses. The aim of this validation phase is to establish whether the health states accurately reflect patients’ experience of the disease, in all its various stages, as described in the vignettes.
Stage 3: we will conduct a pilot preference elicitation study with 20 members of the general public. This pilot study will test how clear the method and health state descriptions are and the method for valuing the health states (time trade-off exercises).
State 4: the main phase of the utility study. We will conduct the time trade-off exercises with 100 members of the general public to measure the value they place on each health state.REC name
