Research summary
During viral infection lymphocytes undergo change in structure. Lymphocyte positional parameters measured using the Sysmex XN analyser have been suggested to detect these changes in the lymphocyte. The aim of the study is to investigate the research parameters that are not reported within the routine full blood count (FBC) to potentially aid in the diagnosis for COVID-19 in routine practice
1. Determine a reference range for positional lymphocyte parameters using retrospective anonymised data
2. Investigate the usefulness of positional lymphocyte parameters to detect COVID-19 in a patient cohort which have previously detected positive for COVID-19 via an antigen or antibody test
3. Determine the benefits of using positional lymphocyte parameters for routine screening in a hospital laboratory
