Research summary
The purpose of the study is to gain a better understanding of people’s experience of living with persistent atrial fibrillation (AF). Improving understanding may help to inform health-care practitioners of how best to provide services to people with AF, with the aim of improving quality of life.
Interviews will be conducted with participants, over the telephone, to gain this understanding of their experiences of living with AF. Specific questions during the interview will be targetted towards people's treatment beliefs. The answers that participants give to these questions will help to give researchers an idea of their views towards treatment and also will help to modify a questionnaire on illness beliefs, which will be used in future research.
This modified questionnaire will then be tested by participants who agree to be contacted later. Participants for this part of the study will be sent a copy of the modified questionnaire and will be asked to talk through their understanding of the questionnaire items, in an interview over the telephone.
