Research summary
The aim of the study is to investigate patient’s experiences of post-operative pain management following major abdominal surgery. Participants who meet the inclusion criteria will be invited to take part in the study on admission to the ward. If they accept to participate in the study, they will be visited by the researcher before being discharged from hospital. Their questions if any will be answered and all participants will be asked to sign a consent form. Semi-structured interviews will be used to collect data. An interview date will be arranged at the time and place that is convenient to the participant. Participants will be given a choice of whether to be interviewed at home, over the phone or when they come to the transplant clinic. Each individual interview will last no more than an hour. Interviews will be tape recorded. Data will be analysed using colaizzi’s approach. This is because Colaizzi’s method calls for validation of the study data by participants.
